Oz in the News 7.20.12

X-Play’s ‘Wizard of Oz XXX’ Porn Parody Readies for Casting Producers are looking to cast Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Wizard, Glinda the Good Witch, the Wicked Witch of the East, the Flying Monkeys, Auntie Em, Uncle Henry, and numerous munchkins, plus some horny high school dropout-types that Dorothy meets hooking on the yellow brick road.  Numerous parts will be available in what promises to be a rousing pornographic adaptation of the classic 1939 MGM movie that starred Judy Garland as Dorothy. The porn musical is being directed by Will Ryder and production is slated to take place this summer.

Will Once Upon a Time Travel to the Land of Oz?  “What’s interesting is if you go back and look at the pilot, there’s a page of flying monkeys in Henry’s book,” executive producer Edward Kitsis says. “If I would go back and re-watch it – or buy the DVD coming out in August – and you pause on the book, you might see it.” The scene in question is when Emma crashes her car and the book goes flying. “The book flips through a number of pages. There are glimpses of images, one of which are the flying monkeys from Oz,” executive producer Adam Horowitz adds. (Kitsis also notes that another blink-and-you’ll-miss-it image from the pilot was that of the hookah-smoking Caterpillar, which was voiced by Roger Daltrey in the Alice in Wonderland-themed episode, “Hat Trick.”)

Queerphobia, bigotry and The Wizard of Oz  At the height of the sexually McCarthyite Hays Code, which explicitly banned Hollywood from ‘any inference of sex perversion’, could the witch’s pointed spinsterdom emblematise an even worse trait? With her ungroomed appearance and plain mode of dress, her now-immortal ‘My pretty’ can be read both as predatory sexual leering and jealousy of Dorothy’s more ‘femme’ appearance – is the wicked witch, as Wicked once again hints, a caricatured lesbian? ‘It’s so kind of you’, she says, ‘to want to visit me in my loneliness.’

The Wizard of Oz: Ruby Slippers Online Slot Game Review  Fans of the original are sure to enjoy the game which launched earlier this month and is packed with bonus prizes and special features. However, at present the game is only available to players in the UK, Sweden, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, Luxembourg, Isle of Man and Guernsey. The game is packed with sights and sounds from the film. The wild symbol is the “Wizard of Oz” and it can substitute for a number of other symbols in order to help create winning combinations. There are loads of feature trigger symbols: Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Lion, the Scarecrow, the Wicked Witch of the West, the Wizard and the Emerald City. These symbols will trigger different bonus symbols depending upon which have appeared on the reels.

Ding-dong! Classic to be screened as singalong  Moviegoers will be given goody bags filled with props relating to the movie — such as liquid for blowing bubbles when Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, is on the screen. Audiences can dress as their favorite movie characters and join in a costume parade through the theater. “Everybody knows the songs,” Frank said, “but not everybody knows the words.” Warner Bros. offers prints of the movie specifically for singalongs, with lyrics superimposed at the bottom of the screen.
