Gadsden man portrays Munchkin in movie Daryll Shaw said his father once told him if he was educated and had a degree in mathematics, he always would have a job. The 59-year-old retired math teacher has found that to be true, but he has discovered another way to make money — and it is something he never imagined. “It’s the first time in my life I got paid for being small,” Shaw said. Shaw’s height — 4 feet 6 inches — helped him land a role as a Munchkin in the Disney movie “Oz the Great and Powerful.” The movie was filmed in 2011 and released in theaters and on DVD in 2013. It has been on premium movie channels, but premieres on network television at 7 p.m. Sunday on the USA Network. It took about four months to film the movie, and Shaw and the other Munchkins were at the studio for two months. “It was like a vacation,” he said.
