Guinness recognizes Grand Rapids  Last fall, after visiting the Judy Garland Museum with her family earlier that summer, a nine-year-old Ohio girl dreamed to break the world record for the most dressed-up Wizard of Oz characters. Reece Veatch contacted Guinness World Records and called the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minn., to ask for help in reaching her goal. The Museum board, staff and volunteers took on Reece’s challenge and worked closely with 14 area nonprofits to break the record and hold it for Itasca County. On June 13 this dream became a reality – the old record of 446 held in England was smashed with 1,093 participants in Itasca County. After reviewing a slew of video and photographic evidence, along with official certifications; Guinness World Records, based in London, made the Itasca County record official on Friday, July 25.
