164780_mediumNew Jersey Symphony Orchestra to Present THE WIZARD OF OZ with Accompaniment, 4/26-27  Attendees can dress up as favorite Wizard of Oz characters to participate in a pre-concert costume contest-with prize categories for adults and children-in the concert-hall lobby. Other special festivities also precede each concert. Patrons can dance to the swinging sounds of the Michael Arenella Sextet in the NJPAC lobby on April 26 and can join in on a sing-along of songs from both The Wizard of Oz and the Harold Arlen songbook at the State Theatre on April 27.

164808_mediumAmerican Fairy Tales, celebrating the life and work of Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum  The University of California at Riverside  celebrates The Wizard of Oz and its creator, L. Frank Baum: the world premiere of Tim Labor’s A Royal Pair, musically telling two tales by Baum, and concert suites from The Wizard of Oz and its two offspring Wicked and Oz: The Great and Powerful.  The brilliant Johanna McKay returns as narrator.  Esther Hays Family Concert series:  Free and open to the public.

164815_mediumThe Summer in the City Celebration committee will be hosting a Wizard of Oz Festival June 20 through 21 in downtown Ionia  This event will be in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Wizard of Oz. The Wizard of Oz Festival will feature character look-a-like contests, arts and crafts vendors, a silent auction, musical entertainment and the showing of the original “Wizard of Oz” film, as well as “Oz: The Great and Powerful,” at the Ionia Theatre. The silent auction will feature gifts and items related to the Wizard of Oz as well as a special live auction featuring autographed items from a private collection.
