Oz in the News 2.6.13

‘Find Your Way to Oz’ with Chrome Experiment and ride the tornado  “Oz: The Great and Powerful” will be blowing into theaters on March 8, and to help you get ready, Disney and Google have teamed up to present “Find Your Way to Oz” — a Chrome Experiment that functions like an interactive trailer for the film. Enter the site, and you’ll find yourself in an old-time Kansas fairground where you can explore wooden circus cars, make your own moving picture and create a tune for a self-playing music box. If you click on the balloon icon at the bottom of the screen, you can make your way over to a hot air balloon and jump in for a virtual ride. You can use your mouse to guide the balloon through the tornado, but it’s a game you can’t win. Inevitably, you will rise up through the top of the storm and into the land of Oz. You’ll know you’re there because a message on the screen says, “You’ve made it. Welcome to Oz.” If you click on the tab that reads “Follow the Wizard,” you’ll follow Oz (James Franco), Glinda (Michelle Williams) and a girl made out of china traveling in what looks like giant soap bubbles  into Munchkinland. It’s a lovely introduction to Sam Raimi’s vision of the land of Oz that manages to feel fresh and modern while still paying homage to the sets of the classic 1939 “Wizard of Oz” film. “Find Your Way to Oz” is a collaboration among Google, Disney and the multi-platform production company Unit9. You can play around with it at FindYourWayToOz.com.

Mariah Carey Records ‘Almost Home’ Single for Disney’s OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL Soundtrack  Disney announced today that multiple GRAMMY® Award–winning superstar Mariah Carey has recorded the song, “Almost Home,” for “Oz The Great and Powerful,” the studio’s highly anticipated fantastical adventure, directed by Sam Raimi, releasing in theaters nationwide on March 8, 2013. “‘Almost Home’ has a message that works beautifully with the film,” Mariah Carey says of the song she co-wrote and co-produced for “Oz The Great and Powerful.” “It’s a feel-good record, evoking the feeling of reaching your home and being with people that you love.”
