Oz in the News 11.30.11

The Wonderful Wizard of…Arkham?!?  This week’s Line it is Drawn is comic book characters mashed up with the classics of Western Literature. You can check the gallery out here. One of our artists, Sean McFarland, wanted to wait until he colored his piece for me to share it (especially given the topic, black and white would seem out of place).

‘Raising Hope’ Recap: “Bro-Gurt”   Burt used his brain to come up with a unique idea. Virginia proved she had a heart when she encouraged Andrew to share the idea of Bro-Gurt. Andrew found his courage by standing up to The Wizard. Jimmy, however, just wants to go home which The Wizard says he could have done all along. If any you find this reference confusing, I really don’t know what to do with you.

New mates for Santa on parade  The jolly red man will be dancing down the yellow brick road with an impressive team of Wizard of Oz characters in this year’s Nelson Santa Parade. A team from Community Art Works, the community art centre in Paru Paru Rd, will be entering The Leader Nelson City Santa Parade on Sunday with the theme Return to Oz. A team of volunteers, members from Disability Support Services (DSS), and other people from the community who made art at the centre will be dressed as the Tin Man, Scarecrow, Lion, and donkey among others. There will even be an Emerald City.
