Stop-Motion Wizard of Oz Flick In The Works Vanguard Films is the economic force behind Oz Wars and Variety is reporting that the company has tapped stop-motion animation veteran Mike Johnson (who co-directed Corpse Bride with Tim Burton) to direct the pic. The plan is to use state-of-the-art stop-motion software to complete the project at a cheap cost and that task will be all the more feasible with an experienced artist like Johnson at the helm. Production is expected to get underway soon, with the Oz Wars script being already complete.

Lorna Luft Comes To Feinstein’s FEINSTEIN’S AT LOEWS REGENCY, the nightclub proclaimed “Best of New York” by New York Magazine, and “an invaluable New York institution” by The New York Post, opens its 2011 season with the debut engagement of acclaimed entertainer Lorna Luft from Tuesday, January 4 to Sunday, January 9. In “Songs My Mother Taught Me: The Judy Garland Songbook,” Ms. Luft melds one of the world’s most familiar songbooks with personal memories of a loving daughter. The show, which Variety called “a rousing, dramatically riveting musical event,” was awarded two Los Angeles Theatre Alliance Ovation Awards and the Los Angeles Times called her performance “heart-stopping and thrilling. An incandescent revelation not to be missed.”
